    Paul Kime 1934-2023

    Paul Brickey Kime (Artist, “P.B. Kime”) born in New Braunfels, Texas.

    Paul spent many of his childhood years growing up on a farm in Muncie, Indiana, where he developed his love and experience of working with and raising animals and gardening. This was also the time in which his parents recognized his passion and natural born talent in his artwork and creativity and set him up with private art lessons to further his skills and creations. They moved from Indiana to San Antonio, Texas where Paul attended Jefferson High for a short time, then moved to "Northside" (John Marshall High School) where he would meet his future bride and mother of his children and graduated in 1954.

    Shortly after graduating, Paul was drafted into the United States Army at the age of 19, and went through bootcamp training in Killeen, Texas. On November 2, 1957, Paul married his “high school sweetheart,” Carol Loessberg, and that same month he was stationed in Germany for two years. When he returned, he continued to serve in the Active Reserves and was Honorably Discharged in 1963. He started out working as a painter contractor for a homebuilder, designed billboards around the city, was contracted in ’68 by HemisFair Murals to work on the Lila Cockrell Theater, and worked at Ft. Sam designing signs for recruitment. The first art gallery he opened of his own was "The Rusty Shoe Art Gallery" in Cascade Caverns where he displayed his work and taught art lessons. Paul & Carol moved the family to Helotes in the early ‘70's where he would open his next art gallery ­ "The Rusty Spur" - right next to his home which was across the street from the famous John T. Floore's Country Store. He taught paint lessons here, and traveled many times to Big Bend and Cloudcroft, New Mexico to paint on location. After meeting many people and establishing deep roots in Helotes, where much of the family still resides, Paul moved to Alpine, Texas, where he opened another art gallery, and remarried to Patricia Kime. Paul worked at the Sul Ross University teaching art classes for a while and painted many paintings of different areas in west Texas, including the mesas and the hill country. He was then able to fulfill a dream of his in 1997, and bought a small ranch just outside Junction, Texas.

    Paul was a man of many talents, an all-around "self-taught artist" - not only in his paintings, but also teaching himself how to play the piano, guitar, and sing, spending some of his free time playing in a band with his friends. There wasn't anything he couldn't build, paint, or grow. Besides painting and gardening, other past-time hobbies and interests that he enjoyed were hunting, fishing, searching for arrowheads, taking care of his cats and dogs and just spending time and soaking up the beauty of the outdoors.
