    Ruth Duncan (1908 - 2002)

    Ruth Duncan (1908-2002)
A story told to me by her son.  Ruth was exhibiting at an invitational show at the Smithsonian.  A handsome man approached her asking how much she wanted for her painting.  She replied that she would never sell that painting.  He asked her if she would paint another like it and she replied No.  It was her favorite painting that she had ever done and she refused to sell.  The handsome man asked if she would paint some landscapes near his home.  She replied sure thinking she could do some plein air work in the hill country.  After her response of yes, he asked her when she could come stating that he would pay for her travel time as well.  She replied that she had an open schedule after the show.  She then asked where he lived.  He replied, Monaco.  The handsome man was Prince Rainier of Monaco.  She did go and paint in Monaco for the Prince.
